Who doesn’t want wealth? Who doesn’t want to have a surplus of everything in this life? Everyone wants these things, but people often put work into the wrong areas of their life. They put so much energy into the external world that they forget to put energy into themselves.

From this article, you’ll learn how to become wealthy in your mind first. You’ll read about ways to stretch your rubber band around wealth abundance. From learning how to stop romanticizing struggle to developing high standards for your life, you will leave this article feeling more confident to create wealth and create your dream life.

Why Is Becoming Wealthy in Your Mind First Important?

Wealth starts in your mind first

Our minds are so powerful. There is so much scientific evidence that shows this (I will go deeper into this topic later). Even Mahatma Gandhi said, “A person is but the product of their thoughts; what you think, you become.” People like Joe Dispenza, Neville Goddard, Joseph Murphy, and others talk about this consistently. They don’t talk about it for no reason.

The way you think of something often affects the way you experience it. The phrase “you find what you’re looking for” backs this up perfectly. If you look for problems, you will find them; if you look for good things, you will find those as well. Similarly, if you look for reasons you can build wealth, you will find an abundance of reasons. And if you look for why you can’t build wealth, you’ll also find an abundance of reasoning.

You can’t get anywhere amazing by thinking you cannot get there. You need to believe in yourself and your abilities. People often underestimate themselves, especially women. An experiment from Coffman’s working paper, Stereotypes and Belief Updating, found that even if a woman got the same test score as a man, she estimated her score to be 0.58 points lower than it actually was. Now, it’s not a big difference, but the fact that it is even lower than a man’s belief in himself says something about the way women think as a collective.

That’s why I wanted to write this article today. I want to help girls develop an amazing, strong self-concept so that we never feel like we’re not good enough to become wealthy or achieve our wildest dreams.

Why Does It Work?

There is a variety of scientific and psychological evidence that shows the power of how you think. Although there is one misconception I don’t want you adopting: you can’t only work on changing your mind and then believe wealth will follow. You have to take actual, physical steps toward your goals.

Neuroplasticity and Learning

Your brain makes visible changes based on the things you think of and practice. Any type of focused mental effort, including changing our beliefs around money, rewires your brain, enhancing your performance.

Placebo and Nocebo Effects

Beliefs have been shown to have a powerful effect on our minds through the placebo and nocebo effects. Placebo painkillers still release endorphins, which block pain signals from the body to the brain. Hotel maids who were told that their jobs are exercise improved their health, whereas those who were not told this showed no improvement. Your belief that you can become wealthy should have such a powerful placebo effect.

Self-Fulfilling Prophecies

A self-fulfilling prophecy is a belief or expectation of yourself that makes you behave in a way that confirms those beliefs or expectations. If you believe wholeheartedly that you will become wealthy, your behaviors will align with that belief. This is because the expectation you have leads to actions that make those expectations happen. This gets rid of the gap between it just being an expectation in your mind and it being a physical reality.

Growth Mindset

A growth mindset is the belief that abilities can be formed through effort, learning, and persistence. You need all of these things to become wealthy. If you truly believe that there is no catch, that you will become wealthy if you work strategically and stay consistent, there will be no such thing as obstacles—only learning experiences.

How to Become Wealthy in Your Mind First

Don’t Romanticize Struggle

Many people grew up seeing struggle; therefore, they normalize and romanticize it. You can’t become wealthy and attract ease if you cannot picture your life without any struggle. We are often hooked on our struggle stories, using them as excuses for why we are not where we want to be. If you took accountability for where you are right now, good or bad, you’d call all your power back to yourself.

Here are some signs you romanticize struggle:

  • You feel uncomfortable when life is too good
  • Thinking struggle means you’re strong
  • Running from opportunities that could make you better
  • You bond with people through pain
  • Believing that being busy means you’re being valuable
  • Thinking chaos and passion are the same
  • You take pride in “hustling.”
  • Guilt forms when you decide you want more

If this is you, you can always change. What I want you to do is get a pen and paper and write down everything you are grateful for. Even if it is the smallest, most insignificant thing, like being able to breathe normally—if you feel grateful for it, write it down.

Don’t Be Humble

There is no prize for being humble. No one will give you a trophy for deciding that you should gaslight yourself into thinking you don’t deserve all the good things life has to offer. In order to become wealthy in your mind, you have to truly believe—and be a little delusional—that you deserve everything. Be so delusional that you know everything will fall into place, just like magic.

No wealthy person ever developed their fortune by being humble. Often, they are overconfident and full of themselves; you should be like that too. Not in a bad way, but in an “I believe in myself” type of way.

When you are too humble, you downplay your achievements, develop an inferiority complex, miss out on opportunities, and envy others who have what you want. Have humility, but not too much.

You should be able to recognize the mistakes you made and how you could improve, but you should never talk down on yourself or put yourself down in front of others. You should never believe you are not good enough to achieve your biggest dreams.

Believe Consistency Beats Talent

You could have all the talent in the world, but if you have no discipline and no consistency, all that talent will go to waste. Wealthy people did not get wealthy through luck or talent. They kept going even when they saw no results and when no one believed in them.

Get rid of that limiting belief that you have to be extremely talented or intelligent to become wealthy. Becoming wealthy in your mind first means you have to learn that what separates wealthy people from others is their consistency. There is no magic wand or secret code to building a fortune—it’s just consistency.

It sounds boring; maybe it even sounds too good to be true, but that is the reality. Read any wealthy person’s biography, and one common theme you will see is that they were just consistent and persistent.

Visualize What It Would Be Like If Your Financial Goals Came True

Visualization is a powerful tool. Your brain cannot tell the difference between reality and imagination, so use your imagination to your advantage. Instead of thinking of the worst possible outcome, or “what if it doesn’t work out,” think about the best possible outcome and “what if it all works out.”

Literally imagine how you would live, what your bank balance would look like, what car you would drive, and what hobbies you would have. Assume what being wealthy would be like for you. It may be difficult at first to imagine all these things you have never experienced. Uncertainty, doubt, and criticism may seep in, but think of this as a workout. The more you visualize, the more certain and confident you will get in your ability to create your dream life.

Normalize Thinking in Large Numbers

There are people making 100k in a day, and you don’t even think you are capable of making 10k a month. Be realistic—of course you can make 100k in a month! Becoming wealthy in your mind first means you are able to think big and outside the box. It’s more than money.

One thing to keep in mind is that you should always make decisions from a place of abundance, not fear or scarcity. So every time you set a goal, ask yourself: is this the scarcity mindset or the abundance mindset talking?

To really normalize this, go on Pinterest and look up “bank balance.” You will see the most abundant amounts of money ever. It may make you feel uncomfortable, but don’t worry—that’s a sign your mind’s rubber band is stretching. If you don’t feel uncomfortable from all the big dreams you have, you’re not dreaming big enough.

Normalize large amounts of money. Do anything you believe will help you think of large amounts of money as normal.

Study the Way Wealthy People Think, Not Just What They Do

Do not focus on what wealthy people do. Focusing on what clothes they wear, what cars they drive, where they live, or whatever else is just a waste of time. Learning how they think is the real gold. The mindset that got them where they are is what you should be looking for.

There are so many books to read, videos to watch, and podcasts to listen to where wealthy people talk about everything—from how they started to how they got rid of limiting beliefs. Replace time watching movies and listening to music that lower your frequency with podcasts or videos that teach you something.

Don’t reinvent the wheel. Learn how wealthy people became wealthy in their minds first, then adopt those ways of thinking into your life. Of course, it won’t be easy to automatically change your beliefs; becoming wealthy in your mind is like a workout—the more reps you do, the stronger you become.

Only Consume Content That Expands Your Mental Rubber Band

I talked a bit about this earlier, but get serious about getting rid of any content that doesn’t push you closer to your goal. Only consume content that shows you all the great things that are possible.

I enjoy watching School of Hard Knocks and reading biographies of millionaires and billionaires. Become wealthy in your mind by getting in proximity to those that are already wealthy. You probably can’t go to Beverly Hills or Dubai to scout wealthy people, so use the next best thing: the internet.

Develop High Standards for Your Life

Becoming wealthy in your mind first has more to do with just money. It’s the treatment you expect from others, the places you visit, the clothes you wear, the people you spend time with, and so much more. When you develop higher standards for your life, you attract things that are of higher caliber, supporting you in becoming wealthy in your mind first.

Having high standards encourages constant growth and self-improvement. When you hold wealth, you constantly need to be improving; developing high standards is a great way to get accustomed to this.

Conclusion

Becoming wealthy in your mind first is such an important thing to learn. Many people think it’s only business or investments that make you wealthy, but it’s often your mindset as well. Without a great mindset, you can’t do anything extraordinary in your life.

The most important investment you will ever make is the investment in your mind and your growth. You are the biggest and most important asset. Read the books I’ve linked and consume content that makes you feel abundant and limitless. Your mind is so powerful—use that power to create a beautiful life for yourself
